Rollercoaster Tycoon is a ‘build-your-own-theme-park’.Ībove: You can even make crappy theme parks. You must hire technicians to fix rides when they break down, custodians to clean up the messes, and even entertainers wearing costumes to keep people in line entertained. The customers just walk around like little lemmings and spend their money.
You can raise and lower the terrain, install various food shops, rides, roller-coasters of various designs (or design your own), and even specify where the restrooms are located. You can literally do anything with your park. The scenarios become more complicated the further you go. Each scenario has a goal which usually is to increase the park’s value by a certain time period. The game is offered through ‘scenarios’ where most of them are locked (until you finish the first ones). Rollercoaster Tycoon is a ‘management game’ and was made by only one person. I ran my version on Windows XP which is probably the OS it was designed on.Ībove: One of the best ‘Attract Screens’ in gaming.
I don’t recall having any issues with Rollercoaster Tycoon though you should save your game repeatedly. Your other hand can be placed on a beer the entire game. There is no multiplayer in Rollercoaster Tycoon. Back in the day, this would have costed around $150 for what you can get today for $5.99. Rollercoaster Tycoon Deluxe has the vanilla version as well as both expansion packs. A solid purchase.Ībove: This game is STUFFED. The worst thing to age is the interface of placing and removing things in isometric environments by ‘rotating’ and constant zooming in and out. Rollercoaster Tycoon Deluxe has so much to do in it that it is one of the best values on GOG. VERDICT: Addictive, tons of depth, and you get to play it your own way.
